Council to Endorse for a new Denomination: Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad

At their 2009 Annual meeting, the board of the Presbyterian Council for Chaplains welcomed the Rev. Jay Kim from New Jersey as an emissary from the Korean Presbyterian church Abroad. He was there at the behest of his General Assembly which voted earlier in 2009 to ask the PCCMP to endorse their clergy to the military and VA chaplaincy. He was sent by the denominational Mission Director, the Rev. Dr. David Lee. The Council explored the possibility of endorsing and voted to proceed with the staff helping the KPCA to become an endorsing denomination to the DoD.

As of February 2010, all of the approval needed had been secured from the Armed Forces Chaplains Board. The PCCMP interview committee, including the Rev. Jay Kim, endorsed six candidates for military chaplaincy. Those endorsements included Ch, Capt Shin Soh, USAF and the Rev. Chae Woo Lee. Chaplain Soh was the first qualified candidate making it possible for the KPCA to endorse. Rev. Lee was endorsed for the Army and is looking forward to serving.

There are strong hopes that the 2010 meeting of the PCCMP will welcome the KPCA (Abroad) as the fifth member denomination.
